Daniel Unger, born in 1978, is a former triathlon world champion (2007) and remains the only German to have won the world title over the short distance. After ending his active career, he successfully transitioned into coaching. Since 2019, he has served as the national base coach for the German Triathlon Union in Saarbrücken. In 2022, he completed the diploma coaching program at the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). In April 2025, Unger was appointed by AusTriathlon in Australia as a coach for the Ascent Academy. There, he works alongside Non Stanford-Royle to support and develop international junior athletes.
